Fertility Smoothie Recipe
Though we share dozens of fertility-optimized recipes with our members, this smoothie is a community favorite. Hope you enjoy!
In a blender, combine...
- 1 cup of frozen wild blueberries
- 1 banana, sliced and frozen
- 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt or kefir
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk or coconut water
- 1 teaspoon of chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon of flaxseeds
- Booster of your choice
This recipe was also designed with fertility nutritionists to help you get those amazing inflammation-fighting omega-3 fatty acids (from the seeds) and DNA protecting antioxidants (from the blueberries). Plus, the greek yogurt or kefir are a great way to kick start your microbiome each morning, which early evidence links to fertility outcomes.
Try adding one of these boosters at a time to your smoothie base — the key is not to go overboard.
Sweetener: 1 tsp maple syrup or vanilla
Extra creamy: 1/2 avocado or 1 tbsp almond butter
Protein boost: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Digestion-booster: 2-cm thumb ginger
Folate-booster: 1 cup raw spinach
Hormone-balance: 1 tbsp cinnamon
Microbiome variety: try adding pineapple, strawberries, arugula, parsley, cilantro, acai, melon, citrus
These daily boosters help you riff on the base recipes depending on what you're feeling any given morning!
In fact, we encourage you to riff — the key to a happy fertility health is eating a variety of fruits and veggies.
Just don't overdo the boosters. The best tasting smoothies tend to be the simplest. So just pick 1-2 things to mix up max.
